Hello, Friends! Here is the prayer for today…

Our Father,

On this day, we call St. Patrick’s Day, many are unaware of the spiritual things this day represents. Patrick was a man after your own heart. He was a hero of faith…someone who loved Jesus and lived his life as a missionary, spreading the good news of the gospel and setting up the first Christian churches in Ireland. His life was a testament to the truth of scripture and how you redeem the things the enemy has meant for harm and work things together for good for those who love you. His life is a reminder that one person who is committed to you truly can change the world.

When Patrick was kidnapped as a teen in England and sold into slavery in Ireland, he could have become angry and bitter and despaired of life, but instead, he turned to you and found you to be his hope and strength amid his suffering and servitude. He opened his heart to you, and he used his time in captivity to change his heart while he prayed for hours on end. He learned to hear your voice and to trust you. At the time you appointed, you spoke to Him and showed Him a way to escape back to England. Most people would have fled and never looked back. But Patrick felt you calling him to go back to Ireland to spread the gospel message to the very people who enslaved him. He lived out your instructions to “pray for those who persecute you,” and an entire country came to know of your saving grace because he was obedient and didn’t let pain, bitterness, or unforgiveness get in the way of what you called him to do.

Lord, there are so many of us who deal with things that are unfair, wrong, and change the course of our lives. Please heal us and help us overcome so we can be used mightily for your kingdom. Help us to learn to forgive like Jesus and Patrick. May we allow your love to change us to the point that we can love our enemies and pray for those who hurt us, persecute us and come against us. May we find the courage to say, “Here I am Lord, use me…let your will be done, not mine.”

As people focus on the secular symbols and traditions of this holiday, may we think about the deeper, eternal truths behind this day. May we learn from Patrick’s life and legacy that healing is possible…that forgiveness is possible… that extraordinary things are possible when we have faith, courage and are obedient to you.

Please pour your healing balm and peace upon all who are hurting this day. Thank you for your grace and mercy and the restoration and redemption you offer. In the name our Savior, Jesus, we pray. Amen

May God’s blessings and favor be upon you!

~Hope For The Brokenhearted
